Favre's TD Pass with :07 lifts Vikings to SB47
Brett Favre hit Sidney Rice of a 20 TD pass with :07 remaining to give the Minnesota Vikings the NFC Championship and a trip to New Orleans for Super Bowl 47 against the Buffalo Bills. This game went back and forth all day. Favre's very first pass of the day was picked off and set up a 28 yd Rams FG for a 3-0 lead. Favre then ran one in himself for an 11 yd TD and the Vikings led 7-3 after 1 qtr. LA went back ahead on a 3 yd run by Stephen Jackson but he Vikings and Favre hit Vicente Shankoe with a 6 yd strike and Minnesota led at the half 14-10. After a Ram turnover early in the 3rd the Vikings drove the ball to yhe Minnesota one where the Rams put on a great goal line stand and the Vikings settled for a 21 yd FG and a 17-10 lead. The rams came right back down the field and AJ Feely hit Danny Amendola with a 37 yd pass to tie the game at 17. On the next drive Minnesota's Percy Harvin fumbled the ball away on his own 30 and shortly after Feely hit TE Daniel Fells for a 17 yd TD and all of a sudden the Rams were back out in front 24-17 as the 3rd qtr ended. Harvin took the insuing kickoff from his own 13 and returned it 74 yards to the Ram 13. Three play later Adrian Peterson went in from 6 yds out to tie the game at 24. Again the Rams held and Minnesota settled for a 28 yd FG and the score was 24-20 Rams. On the Rams next possession Feely got picked off and the Vikings retiurned it to the Rams 1. Peterson went in for a TD on the next play and Minnesota regained the lead 27-24. The Rams got the ball back with 3:51 left in the game at their own 38. Feely led the Rams to the Vikings 11 and then hit RB Kenneth Darby for the 11 yd TD on the first play after the 2 minute warning giving LA the 31-27 lead. The Rams did a great job covering the kick and Minnesota started on their own 32 with 1:42 left. Favre hit Sidney Rice for 17 yds and the Vikings were at mid field with 1:31 remaining. Favre then hit on a series of short passes but had to burn up all his timeouts The Vikings had a 1st and 10 on the Viking 20 with :16 seconds left and no time outs. Favre hit Rice at about the 10 and had 2 men to beat to the endzone. Rice crossed the goal line just before getting hit for the game winning TD with :07 left. The Rams had 1 last play from their own 44. Feely hit WR Donnie Avery but was tackled at the Viking 30 and the game was over with the Vikings stunning 34-31 win.
The Vikings go to the Super Bowl for the first time in 26 years to meet the highpowered Bills. The last time the Vikings were in the Super Bowl it was against the OJ Simpson Bills and they lost 45-10. The Bills are a 15 point favorite to win Super Bowl 47.
