Painted bases are not allowed in Dixie or Carolina league.
The main reason is Ive heard complaints about "maybe" some illegal materials could be hid in the paint? Especially when the figures are glued or painted onto the base. Also Ive heard that some of the paints are so glossy and hard that they create a slippery effect. So they are better suited for receivers and defensive linemen for penetration. Now maybe if they were painted with some paints that are not enamel or look like they been glossed to death.
So to keep controversy and speculation down we dont allow painted bases.
Hope this helps explain why we dont allow them to be used.

Joel

The WMLMF welcomes painted bases. That's all I ever use. I can only wish that the enamel made them extra slippery, or that the extra paint made them super strong. The funny thing is, when I weigh a painted rookie base it weighs the same .8g as a non-painted one, so I don't see what the problem is. I mean, guys paint figures all the time and load them up with 100 layers of clear coats to get them up to whatever limit they're allowed, but paint a base that still wieghs .8g and guys throw a tizzy. Makes no sense to me....

Al ,
A figure doesnt usually make contact before a base does. That is why there isnt a problem with the figures.
Also most leagues dont weigh a base separate from a figure. And if you have him glued to the base then you cant weigh it separate. Or even if not glued I for one do not like taking a figure off his base to weigh it. I dont want to handle other peoples teams in that matter.
So as I stated to keep controversy down and keeping peoples mind at ease its just not allowed.
