Not to threadjack here, but just since a couple folks showed interest in that link, I'll share some other information regarding the ASA that may or may not be correlated to EF:

* The ASA is a partner nation of FISTF, the international table soccer governing body. FISTF has a world ranking system, of which our players are a part, and we host international tournaments every year as part of the World Tour.

* The ASA rankings are an ongoing source of discussion, and were just recently changed to include "rolling" rankings in addition to the points race for the season. A season runs from September 1 of one year to August 31 of the next, thus, our 2007-08 season just began with the Delaware Valley Open on Saturday. There is no perfect system for such a thing - the majority seem to like what we have.

* Tournaments are fields of 12-24, however there is an upcoming tournament in Maryland likely to surpass 60 players.

* The ASA has been much more successful at developing youth players than EF has. In fact, some of our youth players have won full tournaments themselves, and challenge well in their age group in international events. How? Like the reason you rob a bank - that's where the money is! If you want kids to play, get in the schools!

* The ASA has had a Board of Directors (5 folks, one person for each region, with one serving as President) for many years. These are the policy makers for the game in our country, as representatives of the ASA members in their region. ASA membership is granted by playing in a tournament at any point and paying tourney fees, then confirming membership information either online or with your region's VP.

Tom Ruesink has a ranking formula. He used to post it on our league site.

You may want to contact him for a more "In-depth" explanation of the ranking formula.

I kind of created those ("RooPI") - at least the first version that he used on the site. It was created as a bit of a copycat of the ASA Rankings of the time, or so I figured - points earned for level of finish in tournaments based on number of players in the tournament, with bigger tournaments being designated as "majors" and being worth more points. That way someone who bounced in the quarterfinals of a 32-coach tourney probably would get similar points to someone who made the final of an 8-coach tourney, given that they would have had to win the same number of elimination games to get to those stages of the respective tournaments. I think there may have even then been an intended component for points for tourney finish based on strength of schedule, but I don't remember.

I don't totally know how they are figured up now. For ASA, I think we dispatched of the "major" designation a year or so ago.
