Default CEFL - Season III

CEFL's 60-game solitairre regular season is in the books!! All games were played on a very nice board created by the artist Mr. Bruce Watts. Players were painted by the terrific artists Beenutt and Roo. Each team plays 4 conference foes and one independent team. Here are the results...

Big Ten Conference
Michigan 4-1
Penn State 4-1
Ohio State 2-3
Illinois 2-3
Michigan St. 0-5

Big Twelve Conference
Colorado 4-1
Nebraska 3-2
Oklahoma 3-2
Texas 1-4
Texas A&M 0-5

PAC Ten
Cal 4-1
UCLA 4-1
USC 3-2
Oregon 1-4
Washington 0-5

SEC
Auburn 3-2
Alabama 3-2
Georgia 3-2
Ole Miss 2-3
Florida 1-4

Independent
Navy 5-0
Notre Dame 5-0
Army 2-3
Syracuse 1-4

Michigan and Colorado were forced to play a play-in game because both won their conference but lost 1 game. Also, Cal looks stronger than both.

Up next...Cal vs. Navy in the Orange Bowl
Then.......Notre Dame vs. Michigan in the Sugar Bowl
Then.......The two winners play in the Rose Bowl.

Skins Fan: This system is based on posts I've seen on the efl message boards over the past year. Thanks to the coaches who have posted about systems of play - it really helps solitairre players.

Each team gets the ball twice, teams switch sides at the half. Offense sets formation first. Defense may place up to 6 non-linemen on magnet bases, but must be more than 5 yards behind LOS if outside tackle box and more than 10 yards back if inside tackle box. Offense may choose one blocker on magnet base after defense sets formation to cover blitzers if it chooses. QB may also be on magnet base if it chooses.

Board runs for 5-seconds (first movement). If the play is a run, offense may designate the runner (choosing between 2 running backs and QB) that is best positioned at this time, all unengaged players may pivot and board runs until there is a tackle (any touch, close call goes to defense near line of scrimmage, close call goes to offense if downfield).

If play is a pass, QB may run forward or roll out to escape potential sack by replacing magnet base with regular base or stand in the pocket with magnet base. All unengaged players may pivot at this time. Defensive players may switch from magnet bases to regular and pivot at any stoppage.

Board runs for 5 more seconds (second movement). QB may pass or hold the ball. No additional pivots allowed at this time (although I may cancel this rule next season). Board runs for 5 more seconds (third movement). QB must pass or play is a sack at QB's final position. My board runs pretty fast, so a good defense sometimes gets a sack during the first movement and usually forces the QB to scramble for the second with pressure and defensive pivot. Scrambling QB usually runs close to out of bounds preventing a 3rd movement. If QB gets blocking protection and can stand in the pocket for 3rd movement, at least one receiver usually gets open pretty far downfield by the end of the 3rd movement.

If a player carrying the ball falls over during the play, it is a fumble. Player placed upright and ball dropped from about 3 inches overhead onto his back. All unengaged players may pivot to try and recover. Successive pivots if noone recovers after 5 seconds. First player to touch may recover. All unengaged players may pivot and player may return until tackled. Fumbles are devastating due to the fact that each team only gets the ball twice.

Passing is done with Triple Threat QB actually passing felt ball. Because my passing skills are so pathetic, QB gets two chances to complete, unless first is an interception. All unengaged players may pivot on completed pass or interception. I sometimes struggle to be able to pass over other players with much accuracy, so offensive lines that are able to open "passing lanes" are effective.

No field goal attempts unless offense is inside the 30-yardline. In the event of a 3-3 tie, team that got furthest downfield wins. If 7-7 or 10-10 tie, team with most yards wins. If 14-14 tie, overtime with each team running 3 plays. Homefield advantage allows home team to know what they have to beat in overtime because home team goes last.

Badger: Some stats to support your prediction.

Team Rankings - Defense
1) Notre Dame
2) Cal
3) Michigan
13) Navy

Team Rankings - Offense
1) Navy
9) Michigan
12) Notre Dame
16) Cal

If defense wins championships, ND/Cal may be looking good. It will be interesting when offsensive powerhouse Navy takes on defensive minded Cal.

Default New Camera

K-Lo: Just received a digital camera. I will try to figure out how to attach photos to a post (I'm a low-tech kind fella still learning how to use all of this new fangled technology). You gave me an idea...a photo-essay summarizing CEFL Season III. I'll see what I can put together. Coop

Hey Coop do you got a website for your league? If not I highly suggest putting one together for future season so we can see all the College action.
