MCFA Convention_Michigan v Michigan St.
Folks there were some great coaches at our first Convention. All weekend long one could hear the plastic cracking, the sound of another sack or a touchdown! I myself played 7 games and had a blast. I was hoping to play Michigan Joe for another crack at my in-state rivals, The Michigan Wolverines.
A few years back at Jimbo's college tourney U of M's Mike Hart (tourney MVP) dashed my hopes with a long run in a MARATHON. At the convention his was both of our last games on Sunday and it tourned out to be a classic. Who would take home Paul Bunyon's Axe? The Teams: University of Michigan Wolverines - Joe Allore a/k/a Michigan Joe (Pronounced MEEEEEEECHIGAN) The Spartans of Michigan State - Steve Martin a/k/a Treks1 The venue: The Miniature Football Coaches Assoiciation First Annual Convention The Stadium: The Frozen Tundra of Frank Jacob's awesome snow field. What better place for this Big Ten match-up (in Ohio, of all places...) The Kickoff U of M on the move Touchdown MEEEEEEEECHIGAN! State lines up Touchdown Michigan State! U of M is strong up-front He hits the pylon! Touchdown MEEEEEEEEECHIGAN!!! Spartans look down-field Touchdown Michigan State on a 3rd down run play! The Wolverines had a great day in the air but on their third possession overthrows an open receiver and is picked off by the Spartans.... But U of M brings pressure and sacks State on two consecutive downs. Regulation ends 14 - 14. Overtime its yardage from the 50 yrd. line, one (1) play. State misses a pass to an open receiver. If U of M gains a yard they win. Coach Joe says Mike Hart up the middle! Wow!! But State stuffs the middle and stops Hart for a negative gain!!! What a game to close down the convention! Joe is a great painter, customizer and coach and his son made a great team. Its all about the fellowship and I had a great time.

a little magic in this rivalry...
Steve,
Thanks for posting this, I'm smiling ear to ear right now. Win or loose our game was definatley one of the highlights for me. We sure do have a special little rivalry brewing in the state of MI bragging rights game! I don't have a local league like the GLEFL or mid-ohio league, so this was very much a highly anticipated and special game for me. The two UM/MSU games we've played have had some magic to them. It was an absolutely great game again as anticipated and I'd have to say that we were both hitting on all cylinders thru the first two possesions with the score tied 14-14. I literally made one mistake with the INT while driving on my last possesion of regulation, and I think you made one critical mistake with the incompletion in OT. In the end there was never a doubt what needed to be done to end the debate for who was the best MI team that day; not off tackle, not around the end, but straight at the Spartans (power on power) let the best plastic men win- and your team stuck it up in there and I take my hat off to the Steve Martin led Spartans for winning the huge rivalry game. I had a blast competing in that game and it was an awesome weekend- the fellowship was everything I'd hoped it would be. Joe UM/MSU instant classics (Series Recap): Game 1 Jan 2007, Gary IN- the Spartans have an amazing 12 play 25 yard Spartan TD drive with two improbable high arching 4th down pass completions to score the go ahead TD. However faced with a 4th and 10 from the 25, the young Wolverines stun the Spartans with a TD run by M.Hart and a 2pt conversion run by M.Hart (MICHIGAN WINS) Game 2 Aug 2008, New Philadelphia OH- the unthinkable, after seeing both offenses play flawlessley thru two possesions it was a defense that made the big play. With Michigan only needing 1 yard to secure victory in OT the Spartans muster up the will to stop Michigan's M.Hart behind the line of scrimmage in OT, the same heisman trophy winning M.Hart that dashed there spirits in game one in 2007. (MSU WINS) Game 3- whats next???

Joe and Steve...
Thanks guys! That was simply a "classic" and was a great way to close out the convention...with everyone in the room gathered around a board watching two coaches duke in out on the electric "frozen" gridiron!
Games like this is what it is all about!
