Odd facemask
I just saw an old picture of the Cowboys Lance Rentzel with an almost translucent white facemask....I have necer seen this before and I'm pretty sure the Cowboys never sported them as a team...Anybody have any theories or info. I wish I could post the the picture (I'm new to this computer thing:o ) I'll find the web address at least if anybody is interested in checking it out...

i think that those were allowed for a while until people realized the danger of them shattering! want some weird facemasks? google some images of otto graham (the first player to wear a facemask) and see if you can find him wearing a plexi-glass type face shield. yikes!!

Lance's facemask was made by Marietta. That style was popular in the 60's and mainly college teams in the southwest wore them. Rawlings, Macgregor and Dungard also made white plastic facemasks during that period.

Marietta...Huh..not familiar with them..My Grandad worked for Rawlings in the 60's and always had prototype helmets,shoulder pads,etc around the house but I never saw anything like that.Thanks for the info! (Why only Southwestern schools do you suppose?)
