timer question

I am just wondering.... HOW THE CRAP DOES THE "AUTOMATIC TIMER" WORK?!?!

you know the little plastic gear deals that go on the board and sorta turn when the board is on... and are indecipherable!

I, like many I am sure, do not use them cause they take up like half of the end zone... but just wondering how they are supposed to work!

Well...I used the timer like 400 years ago, yes 400...LOL

Anyway, what I remember and I have tried it recently as well is:

The "big" wheel is the minute wheel and requires a round "washer" under it that sorta buffers the vibration. They have white felt one's that come w/the felt footballs. They also have, I think through Miggle, brown washers which I believe are foam and also come with the footballs...I painted the numbers on this dial so I had a chance of actual reading it.

If you look at the smaller "second" hand it has a 3 prongs like a base and can be tweaked to:

A.) Move in the correct direction to move the minute hand.

B.) Adjust the speed at which it moves such that it increments one minute every 60 rotations.

I guess it goes with out saying it only keeps time when the board is vibrating.

I think that's the idea behind it, however, I defer to the more experienced folks. I was just hoping I could actual, maybe, perhaps help someone out...

ahhhhh... that is what the little foam ring is for...

I bought my board off Ebay (a 620 superbowl board... came with Rams and steelers) and it didnt have the instruction book...

I am now going to play with the timer...see if i like it / can get a handle on how to read it but i might end up using a stop watch or oven timer thing

I want to start introducing time as a factor so i can get into final "2 minute" situations etc.

Oh I wish things worked how they were intended. You will quicky trash the timer set up and never use it again, I guarantee.

Most guys use inexpensive digital timers of all sorts that can be bought. The favorite of us out here in LA running modified Shootout Rules are the talking timers, these I buy from Amazon, just search talking timer on Amazon.com, they are great and inexpensive.

Good luck with the plastic gear timer though, I really do hope you find it useful.

I used the timer for years works when the board is on of course its about two hours of game time if u use it or about 20 plays a quarter!! Check it out its fun to use makes u feel old school.
