Something other than Waterslide Decals?
Has anybody ever thought of using something other than waterslide decals?

What did you have in mind?
What are you thinking of? I love innovations...

If you got blank sticker paper, you could create names and numbers in word using whatever color you wanted, then print it out on the sticker paper, cut them carefully, and affix to a figure. Depending on the paper stock, you might even be able to gloss over them, though this requires some trial and error.
I've done this before for some solitaire teams and why it ain't perfect, it turns out pretty good. They are still on the figures some 5 years later, though they do fade/bleed after a while. I think decals are probably still the best option. Ed

Yes, it's a rather novel idea called painting by hand.

Funny Al. I was thinking while I was watching my nephew apply his decal and stripes to his practice helmet. The stripes were nothing more than electrical tape and the decal was a very thin clear paper. The decal however was very vibrant. It looked like sticker paper but it wasn't. It looked more like that window cling paper. I am going to have to research this.
