Default Alternate MCFA League Idea

I like the idea of an MCFA league...I will throw out for discussion one alternative...

Perhaps we reinstate the tournament rankings system where you get points based on your performance and # of participants in a pre-approved tourney. Then, at the convention, there is a "tournament of the top 8" points getters for a final cup with their hotel expenses paid by the MCFA or something.

That idea:
- Promotes more participation in the individual events (kind of like when we had the tournament rankings in the mid 2000's)
- Provides a little more of a claim to "top in the hobby"

Could be fun...thoughts?

I can bring the rankings back for the 09-10 year (post MCFA convention this year) and yes, I'll set it up.

As for the phone call...the points are the points and would be based on # of participants with perhaps an additional "major" factor (like the majors in golf). I'm nominating Jimmy Davis as my official phone screener. If you can get by him then I'll take the call!!!

Default Me too!

That was one of the highlights of our growth. No questions asked. A very simple system that brought true motivation for people to go to tourneys. That's really what's needed right now. Hope it's a go!

Default What is needed

1) Decision Points:
a. MCFA Members Only: If this is an MCFA rankings system, only MCFA members should be ranked and eligible for the end of the year showdown. Kind of like golf handicaps...you have to pay the $ to get ranked.

b. Include all tournaments, but come out with the list at the beginning of the year (after this year's MCFA convention). That way people don't add tourneys at the last minute just to boost rankings, etc.

c. Tourneys only! This I insist on because it will be called a "Tournament Ranking System" and doesn't try to pit one league against another and more importantly, tracking down leagues, weighting leagues, etc which are always in a state of flux makes it more work than it is worth.

d. Pre-defined points based on # of entrants with perhaps a 1.25X factor for 3 "Majors" (of which can rotate) each year. Therefore the winner of tournaments with 9-16 members get X points, 17-32 members get Y points, 33-64 members get Z points...then there is a decending scale for the runner up, semifinalists, etc. I've outlined this in another post.

e. Final format for the final MCFA showdown. We should have a drawing about 6 months before...put all the rule sets and styles into a hat and pick. That will keep it fresh, unbiased, and rotating.

f. Top 16 MCFA ranked members are eligible for the final showdown at the convention. Maybe top 8? Thoughts? I think 16 will keep the points race more interesting...

Those are the off the cuff ideas...I'd definitely need an MCFA reporter to gather the brackets at each event and forward them. That used to be a challenge at some of the events but I think we've gotten more dilligent at that.
