Default My EF project

Haven't posted anything on here much, but I've been working on an EF project for about a year now. Just thought I'd post the first pic. This hangs in my office behind my desk. I'm still in the process of getting figures painted and such....I could probably get this done quicker if I could limit my number of hobbies/projects to under 20....

Wanted to thank the guys/vendors who have helped with this. The board graphic was done by Larue. The Raiders team (haven't gotten started on it yet) will be Proline and FF.com figures, while the NFL "old school" team will be buzzball/tudor style. My goal is to get one figure painted for every team in the "old school" 28 team league that existed when I was a kid. Marlon just posted some of the figures he's painted like Lawrence Taylor and Rick Upchurch in their throwback unis. Thanks again to everyone.

I see a black version of the new orleans saints gumball helmet. is it authentic, or a custom? if it is authentic, what did it run you?

by the way, nice set up.

Default Thanks, guys

Thanks for the comments. Yes, this is my regular job. I started moving stuff in slowly, one shelf at a time. And then my boss, who's a football nut, said "You know, you could move all your files in to the file room and use the rest of the shelves for more football stuff." SOLD! He's got pennants all over his walls, so it was cool.

The Saints helmet is a custom. The throwbacks are all original 70s/80s gumball helmets, most I got as a kid. But, I wanted to fill in some gaps, so I found a great site.

VERY reasonable, and a very fast shipper. I can't recommend him more highly. He's made my 60s style gumball helmets.

Default About the chrome...

Oh, and I had a few questions about the chrome helmet. No, I didn't buy it completed, I bought the parts and had it done by a company in California. It's not chrome like the chrome on a Harley or a car grill, it's vacuum metallized chrome. Vacuum metallized chrome has a mirror-like finish, and bonds to ABS plastic. True chrome nickel plating is MUCH more expensive, and the helmet would have to be prepped to take the chrome. For once, the cheaper option was the better looking. And the facemask is steel, not the type with the "rubbery" coating. Again, it doesn't take chrome as well. The helmet HAS to be BRAND NEW! Every slight flaw in the helmet is magnified once it takes chrome.

As for the decals...troll for them on eBay. Do NOT ask any "official" helmet restorers for help on the decals...they won't help. The "offical" helmet restorers do NOT like people who do their own helmets. Most of them are either ticked they are losing the sale of a helmet, or they have an official NFL license and can't help you without losing it.

It took me a year to get the chrome helmet done....I should say it took me a year to get it paid for...(groan).

The black helmet is a black clearcoat that any car painter can do. The trick is finding one who will take on a small project. I found a guy going out of business who painted mine for $25...a deal I'm sure I'll never get again.
