Smile Weight And All That...

So, 3.2g is the standard in most leagues around the country, yes?

2.0g for the figure, and 1.2g for the base,
these are the basic requirements, right?

What are the rules within leagues regarding figure platform manipulation? As in 'nipping' away excess weight, the jettisoning if you will, basically hacking the platform to lower the weight of the figure, are there rules against this? If so, please explain in detail the specifics.

Aside: Is it possible to achieve a 'nationally'/'universal' set of rules which would allow play far and wide by fellow EFers? Are things like this in the works?

I received my scale today, it was waiting for me when I got home from work. I didn't get much time on it, a few minutes, it seemed upon first use that my epoxy figures weighed an average of 2.2g, with base they were up to 3.4g. It seems the epoxy added an extra 0.2g to the figure. I am going to get down into this over the next three days. I'm off for vacation time.

Post up some info if you got the gumption, regarding league rules and such.

Thanks!!!

nice figures!
i don't know for a fact, but i believe that i have read that leagues may accept the drilling out of a platform to achieve weight.

Default Weights 101 .

Weights ? That is a good question and an even better subject .

In 99.9% of leagues around the country there is a limit to the amount of weight you can use . But when you take into account the limit rather it's 2.0 , 3.0 , 4.0 , then the base of the figure , then weight is not an issue because all the figures are weighted the same so this is like non weighted .The word weight is just that a word .

As in real football all the players are not weighted the same . Linemen don't weigh the same as WR for example . This being true then why weight all your figures the same ? Giving them a limit is just the same as playing non weighted .

In unlimited weighted game play , the style must be changed to balance out the amount of weight on the field or you will end up playing rugby . The stronger team will win without any coaching .

Weight on a base makes the base run more consistant , and perform 10 times better than an unweighted base . Now keep in mind that too much weight under the base will cause the player to run slower , while less weight will cause the player to run faster . You must find the right balance for what you want to do .

A lineman that is weighted too much may be strong , but will move slow and may not be able to get out of the way of the RB . This will hurt your running game .

I hope that this will help . If you have any other weighted question please feel free to contact me at www.mpflfootball.com

What I do to FF.com figures to get them to make weight was this..

SOME.. of the I cut them in half at the torso, and took the dremel tool to the inerds..

On all of them I replaced the platforms with a different material.

But if your're only coming in at .2 grams over... you may be able to get by with nothing more than shaving down the thigh pads a bit.. and making a hole in the platform of the figure so it'll accept a single prong base.

I have a pair of nippers, and I used them to remove the platform around the sides then it will still fit under the clips of the TTC, now the weight of my Lawrence Timmons figure is 3.2g with base.

I wasn't sure if there were any specific guidlines regarding the 'tinkering' on a figures platform.

Thanks for the input guys!

Default Hey Chachi

I've played in a few leagues around the country and they are ALL different. LA plays "3.3 is 3.3" meaning however you get to that number is ok. GLEFL and The SWB play 3.2 (2.0 figure + 1.2 base) and just this year in the MWEFL we jumped up to 4.0 to include unmodified ff.coms. I showed up at our Opening Day with my ff.com BEARS and we voted to come down to 3.2 or go up to 4.0. MAJORITY vote ruled to go up, so everyone added magnetic tape to their figs and I think it has enhanced the game SIGNIFICANTLY!!! Not only can we crank the speed up more, but the action is second to none!

IMHO, 4.0 allows EVERYBODY to play with whatever you want and it doesn't subject us (me) to hacking off or drilling thru a finger or two!!! I know RR DID NOT intend on his figures making the mainstream of the MF/FF world - BUT SINCE THEY HAVE - let's leave them alone and bump EVERYTHING ELSE UP. It's SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH EASIER AND SAFER to add weight than to decrease weight. That's just my ONE vote, and that's what I'm doing in my personal collection and ultimately that's really the ONLY way I wanna play, whether it's NFL or ARENA, ALL OF MY PRO TEAMS are "BEEFING UP!"

CHACHI: To answer YOUR question specifically - removing excess from the platform is allowed in almost every venue I've been in/to. It's the "adding" that is almost always excluded/prohibited.

I proposed 3 separate weight categories a number of years ago, (I shoulda patented it! ) but at that time customizing wasn't what it is now. I always believed OL/DL should weigh more than WRs and RBs (excluding The Bus) and my categories (feel FREE to use my suggestions without fear of legal action  ) were:
  • OL/DL = 4.0g
  • RBs/LBs = 3.6g
  • WRs/DBs = 3.2g
I even got more specific when I tried to match actual roster weights to grams i.e. 185lb RB = 1.85g (near IMPOSSIBLE) and 350lb DL = 3.5g, as well as that ONE big guy ala The Fridge or Gilbert "The Gravedigger" Brown, but THAT woulda meant everybody on EVERY team woulda been a different weight, and woulda taken FOREVER to weigh-in, so the 3 weight classes was the easiest.

Thanks Jimbo!!!

You got it right:

OL/DL = 4.0g
RBs/LBs = 3.6g
WRs/DBs = 3.2g

This is a pretty accurate measure, and basic enough to take off, or become a universal standard.

Default Lead tape

I saw lead tape brought up on another thread and I wanted to mention it in this thread which discusses weight.

The lead tape is a GREAT technique for weighting bases. The tape can be bought at most golf stores and is very dense meaning small amounts can really make a difference. A small roll will cost you ~$5. The roll I got from Golf Galaxy is ~0.5 inches wide and I can slice it up and place it on the underside of the base and even the inner side walls of the base. Putting it around the perimater of the inner sidewalls creates very balanced weighting which stablizes even highly off balanced customs.

I'm a very big fan of weighting the bases both for customizing and for the overall player performance on fast fields. To build on Jimbo's post about variable weighting for different players, I think 1.5 grams (minature player) per 100 lbs (real life) may be a nice proportionate scale.

LBS. Grams
100 1.50
125 1.88
150 2.25
175 2.63
200 3.00
225 3.38
250 3.75
275 4.13
300 4.50
325 4.88
350 5.25
375 5.63
400 6.00

Beef up them lineman!

Default Weighted Bases

Guys,

I'm going to come in 1st and 2nd place in the Weighted Strongest Base Contest at the Brawl. I tweaked 3 bases and they blew out my current OL and DL. They come in at 17g and they run! Look out!

Talking Weight

I like that idea . Hears is my take on grams per weight for scale........

Grams LBS Position
6.5,under--------QB
7.0-----180------WR , RB , SS, FS
8.0 ----190------TE , LB , SS , FS .
9.0 ----240------TE , LB , SS , FS
10.0----289------OL , DL
10.5-
17.0----300 +----OL , DL .
17.5-
and up--375 and up OL , DL .

Note
less weight = speed and less power
more weight= less speed more power
balance weight = balance speed and power

I see you Smitty
