Number of players on team?
For those who play solitaire, how many players are on your squad? 11 man teams or 22? Just trying to get an idea.
Thanks! |

I usually have 26 on my teams, 13 on offense and 13 on defense. I have one team that has 33 players, but the size of the roster really doesn't affect the game anyways, because there's only 11 guys on the field at a time.

Number of players
I use only 11 player iron man teams to keep it simple. But do what you want. In the past I have used 22 player offensive and defensive teams (Fab Five figures only) or 19 player combination offensive and defensive teams (Buzzball figures only).I guess the big question would be "What can you afford?"

When you play an 11 man "iron man" team, do you just play the team with the figures numbered generic or do you put in some famous numbers? I can't see bart starr playing QB and then playing linebacker on defence.

11 player iron man teams.
Back in the early 70's when, as a kid, all I could afford were 11 player teams I usually numbered the backs and ends like their real life offensive counterparts and the guards and tackles like the defensive takles and ends and the center as the middle linebacker and yes Namath, Lamonica, Unitas, Greise, etc. played linebacker or defensive back. Didn't really matter though because I mostly concentrated on Offense rather than defense during game play anyway. One reason I chose to play my current 1930's NFL league is that players did play both ways in that era. Sammy Baugh was a great defensive back as well as a great passer and punter. Mel Hein was an all-pro linebacker as well as an offensive center. Again, solitaire is where you can do whatever you want with rosters and game play. The main thing is just to have fun and enjoy the game.

I was thinking about doing some teams from the early 50's. Yes the players back then were iron men and played offense & defense. For example chuck Bednarick played both center & linebacker and Buddy young was a running back who also played defensive back. I was going the route of painting both the offense & defense for a team but thats a lot of players if you want both light & dark jerseys.

Team Size
My teams usually range from 26 to 30 players. Sometimes I like to have another TE, additional receivers, maybe another full back, and additional DBs. The combination varies from team to team.
