I keep reading how various people say that because of all the "bickering" on the chatboards, they almost or have or are thinking about quitting the hobby. BEEN THERE DONE THAT!

ALL hobbies have disagreements, whether thy're on their own chatboards or in their meetings or at their events. THAT'S HUMAN NATURE!!! That's MAN'S nature...to fight, argue, conquer, etc. I've been a male ALL of my life and from Day One a football was shoved in my hand - by my Mom!!! - and I've known nothing but destroy, maim, kill, score, run, pass, tackle, etc. THAT'S FOOTBALL!

Here's my point - and I had to sit back and take my own medicine one day not too long ago - mannerisms, voice intonation/inflection, body language, fingers crossed, smiles, winking the eye and all that we would normally SEE when talking to someone cannot be seen in text. Some people use bold and italics just because it looks cool, not because they're yelling or whispering.

WE shouldn't be THAT sensitive to let WORDS affect who we are or what we love to do. I HAVE - but after stepping back and taking a break and then making a few phone calls to clear things up, it's all good.

'Member the old saying: "Sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me!" Maybe a bunch of grown men - myself included - should use that pre-pubescent mentality. That means life was so simple before we got hairy jewels!!! We just played for love of the game.

Peace out.

I tip my hat to you good sir. We are men and these things do happen. Goodness knows I myself was involved in a few of these spats and have fixed the problem by taking the lead and pledging not to engage in negativity of any kind with another member of this hobby. A simple resolution that has yielded a great result. Still, it's a daily struggle.

Default Proposed Solution

Maybe we, as men, should get back to a Daily Scripture!

Quote:
Romans 3:23 - For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Even miniature footballers!!!

And better yet...PROVERBS 15

Quote:
1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.

3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

5 A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.

6 In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.

7 The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.

8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

9 The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.

10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.

11 Hell and destruction are before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?

12 A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.

13 A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

14 The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.

15 All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.

16 Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.

17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.

18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

19 The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.

20 A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.

21 Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.

22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

24 The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.

25 The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.

26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.

27 He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.

28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

29 The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.

31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.

32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.

33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

Default Beautiful

This is outstanding and beautiful. Is God ever wrong? Does he ever come up short? Is his love ever not enough? NO! NEVER! His words are rich and powerful and I thank you Jimbo for bringing them on this post.

Most situations, it really dosn't matter if you are right or wrong, but how you handle the matter. Most people, myself included, go with their natural inclination which is to strike back in anger, and eye-for-an eye. It takes an effort to turn the other cheek, to humble one's self. Jesus was God, the greatest among all, yet he was the most humble. He was the greatest servant and gave all he had so we may have life and have it to the fullest.

What an example we can be in this hobby of Christ's love, gentleness, patience and compassion. It does not come easy and it takes an effort, but its well worth the effort. We can have that kind of environment on this chat board, we can have that kind of enviroment in out Leagues and in our games. We can be the light of the world in a dark place.

We have an opportunity in this hobby to practice what we preach. This father's day weekend (and National Football day), let's all make an effort to reach out to someone, a brother or a friend, or even an enemy and say something kind, apologize for a wrong (even if you were not wrong) or just call someone you may not have spoken to for some time and say hello.

One person can make a difference.

Default Great Post

Jimbo great post. I remember when I was a rookie in the Great Lakes and we went out to the old red roof and had a game. It was you, Pat Morris and Ron. You said something to me and my friend "BP" known by many as Brian Perry that I will never forget you for but obviously I forgot the message. You asked "Are you guys ready to have some fun". When ever I think of Jimbo it's those words. Funny how something that little can stick in my brain but the reason why I brought this up is because you know what to say at the right time brother. Great Post.

...And on the seventh day God rested, and lo, there was a great buzzing sound upon the land. And God said unto his only son Jesus, "Prepare to get thy butteth whooped, for thou shalt know the power of the almighty Wing-T." And Jesus replied unto his father " I don't thinketh so" and then proceded to wave his arms, and lo, Gods offensive line parted like the Red Sea and Gods quartedback was sacketh. "Hark, these are troubled times, but he who haseth a Ravenna Al kicker, shall inherit the Earth." And God did lineth up for a field goal attempt, but the kick sailed wideth right. And God was furious. For with his anger, God said " I will smite Ravenna Al with the plagues of mankind, and he shall know suffering and misery." And so it was written, and so it was done
