Default moving up from the "iron man squad"

OK, I returned the the game last year after having played as a kid 35 years or so ago. I play solitaire and with a buddy on occassion. I have tweaked some bases, mostly because I wanted to know and control what direction they are going to run, I have seen some much better and smoother movement, as well as a definite improvement in direction control. I am ready to move on to coaching with a bigger squad at my disposal instead of the iron man squad, playing both offense and defense.

I see coaches on DVDs and the Internet with a squad set up on the board and they will have another 20 or so players on the sidelines.

Can someone give me a basic breakdown on their teams, as to what bases are tweaked for and at what postion, that makes so many players necessary?

I am thinking the basic five guys of an offensive and defensive line would be used to play both sides, where as I can see the need for different moving players at the other positions.

Is there a common leage rule where the offense is one jersy color and the defense is another jersey color? I want to paint/decal up an expanded roster and tweak the bases but I have no idea how to put together a team at the level I see all the leagues playing at.

Thanks for any info!

Hey Shabby J, I know i have figures and bases for all the normal positions(11 on offense amd defense). Then I have a couple extra bases/figures tweaked for strength to be back up defensive and offensive lineman. But most of the extra bases you see on the internet are for the coaches skill positions based on their different assignments. I know I have at least 7 running backs(go to guy, backup, pass catcher, blocker, fullback, and two that can run the sweep, one right, one left. Then i also have about 7 or eight bases for reciever, 4 bases or cornerback, two quaterback bases(one dead), and about 5-6 linebacker bases with the loopers. Hopefully this helped, i'm sorry if it sounds kinda confusing, just write back if you have any questions!

Default 36 is a solid number

I think 36 is a great squad number to start with, 18 off and 18 def then add to as you need players. I think most leagues and tournment play has the offense in dark jerseys and defense in white jerseys. I have 36 players On my VT Hokies, My offense break down is 7-Oline (3t,3g,1c) 2-TE's 3-WR 2-QB 4-RB. On defense my break down goes like this, 3-DT 3-DE 5-LB's 3-CB 2-FS
2-SS. If you are going to compete in tounments or league play you better have back ups that can replace linemen on special teams, and a RB that can run right and one that can run left and QB's that can do diffrent things. Oh and you have to have rush and contain DE's (loopers). Some leagues and tournments has a roster limit.
