The one thing that bothers me is when coaches committ to playing in a league, show up for the first game, and then you never see em again. If you can't committ to playing the full season, I would rather not see you Week 1. Just my opinion.

How about if they committ and then tell you that they will be their on a sun. and you drive 2 hours for a game and they don't show?

at first but either by losing, personal issues, or lack of commitment, they may leave.

I think if you give your word to play in a league, you should do everything possible to honor that commitment. Keeping everyone fired up is difficult and often times (at least from my perspective), guys want you to keep them inspired or motivated to play. They never think about you and your loss of interest and how you may need it in return.

That's why I enjoy the solitaire world because the league world comes with more human disappointments. It's just so difficult to get a read on who will and will not quit. Often times, I look at if a person is willing to finish out games (win or lose) as a measuring stick. Maybe I am wrong on that but I think it's important to finish a job, whether you like the results or not.

The quitters are my biggest dissapointment as well, and minature football's biggest drawback.

Except for some emergencies or crisis I simply can not understand how somebody could drop off the face of the earth and then still expect to be considered for league play the next season. It's very inconsiderate.

Good point traveler--those same guys will sign up for the next season as if nothing happened.

This is the main reason we have not been able to have a set schedule in the MID -OHIO LEAGUE the last couple of seasons.
I think a league needs to look at a 2 strike rule .
That says if a coach does not finish a season for 2 seasons in a row ... maybe the league would be better without them.

Things do come up { life happens} and a coach may not be able to finish out a season for some reason or another , this is why I feel they should be given a second chance.

difficult things to deal with!!!

I have found Road Warriors to be more committed to a league than the ones right there in the area.

I have been toying with the possibility of establishing a new league in the DFW area and I have no doubt, we would have 32 coaches. Many of these are "Road Warrior" coaches and the thing is, I know their commitment level. These are guys who are "Lifers". But usually when you do something like this, you have people in your local area who you may want to play with but they want to bring along the non-commital baggage/coach from their leagues. Then you decide, it's just not worth having a league at all.

It is such a frustrating thing because if you give a guy 2 chances and he still wants to play, how do you handle that? If you've got not many people in your area and you want to play and create a league, how do you not try to make it work out with the 2-striker?

There are so many things that can cause a league to work or go down the tube. I spoke about a "false legend" yesterday holding the league I started hostage. He was one of those who would commit to playing you and then would not show up and then would quit whenever he started to lose or was about to lose. And guys still want him around???

That's why leagues fail - for unaccountable reasons like this.
