Thumbs up The Lethal Lottery Tournament

I was just brainstorming with Dave Roller for the next issue of the Tweak and we came up with an idea for a tourney to end all tourneys. It's too late for this years MFCA convention, but if Miggle doesn't have their convention this winter, perhaps we could have this instead. Here's the lowdown.

All coaches tweak 10 rookie and 10 TTC bases to their liking. On Friday evening, say around 6pm, all coaches put their bases into a box/bag/bowl or whatever. For each coach who does, 10 extra already tweaked bases will be added to the mix. Then, they all take turns ( not being able to see whose base they are drawing, of course) randomly drawing bases one at a time until each coach has 30 bases. These are what they will use for their team. They then have until 10pm to sort the bases out for each position for their team. NO extra tweaking will be allowed. All coaches will practice with their new bases in the same room to be sure nobody cheats. At 10pm, or sooner if the coach is already done, all teams are turned in to the 'Team Keeper' to keep everyone honest. Starting early Saturday, the tourney starts and everyone plays through the rounds like most tourneys until the winner is crowned.

This would really showcase who can adapt and coach using what they are given. Who would be up for such a tournament????

Thumbs up I love this idea...

When Al and myself were talking about this...

I compared it to being a highschool coach - you don't get to recruit players like the NCAA or draft players like in the pros.

You really are bound by who lives in your school district and who decides to try out for the team. Year after year, you are expected to produce winning teams despite the lack or abundance of talent. Using the "pull and pray" method to randomly select bases could a great fun event!!!

I think it really would allow coaches to really "coach".

I would probably be up for something like this. It would be very challenging.

the idea sounds like fun, the only problem is that the actual number of times that people across the country can get together is extremely limited so when that happens I would probably want to compete with my own team.

I knew this wouldn't be everybodies cup of tea. I liken it to the old IROC (International Race Of Champions) that car racing had where the drivers all had to drive identically prepped cars. Just thought it would be fun to have everyone on an equal basis, as far as base strength and speed is concerned. Of course, it would all depend on the luck of the draw. If Miggle doesn't have a winter tourney, it might be worth considering???

how about the old ways in old days....absolutely NO tweaking allowed. you get to deflash them, no tools whatsoever can be used. right out of the pack bases.
