Default Favre

Well, there is a press conference scheduled at 11:30 or so. Childress to announce that Brett will not play. Of course, he'll say, "At this time Brett is not playing". Which means Brett could still play. Preseason hasn't even started.

So...........This is what Packer fans have put up with for years? So sorry!

No matter, I'll still root for Worthlesberger and the Steelers.

MFCA

You know he's still under contract and sometimes I wonder why they even put up with all the antics involving him. there are a lot of promising young quarterbacks in the league who could give the vikings a fighting chance to make it into the playoffs, just seems like a lot of hoopla over nothing!!!! It's time for the Vikings to trade for or draft a qb for the future and stop worrying about right now.

Default Favre

"Will he retire a Packer?"

Nope...at least not with the current admin/coach in play. He played a high-stakes game of media poker in the summer of 08 with them trying to finagle his way to the Vikes and there's too much bad blood with how he handled that.

"Will he go into the Hall of Fame as a Packer?"

Fortunately we never have to answer that. In football, it's just the bust of the unhelmeted man so there's no hat/uniform involved like there is in baseball.

"Is he retired this time?"

Yeah right. Brett has this incredible need to be "wanted". If he would've shown up as expected in a couple weeks then he would've done just what everybody thought he would. He'd also look a little bit lazy for not going through training camp like the rest of the guys.

This way, he floats out a couple "retirement" texts. He could easily squash things yes or no right now, but he loves this stuff so he lets it linger. People start talking about him again and he gets begged to come back. He also has the built-in excuse of "I knew I wasn't 100% with the ankle, but everyone wanted me to give it a shot" so he thinks he doesn't look bad.

Great player on the field (except for curious decision making in key post-season situations) but a definite tool off the field. Leadership is getting in there with the troops and setting the example not trying to create your own rule set.

This time, though, I think he'll unretire after the Saints game. I don't think he wants to face a Gregg Williams defense again as they beat the snot out of him (which is now the book on how to beat Favre...hit him often and even late in the first few quarters and watch him get edgy later)

Angry As a lifelong Vikings fan...

I would have settled for a Donovan McNabb, with a Tim Tebow in the draft. I loved Tebow at that position and I felt the Vikes should have done what they could to try to draft this guy.

Many do not like Tebow but one thing you never have to worry about with this kid is character issues. I think McNabb would have done well in Minnesota, the right fit for the time left in his career.

The funny thing about the Favre thing is we were just sitting around a few days earlier talking about the antics of Brett Favre and how you get SO, SO, SO tired of the Favre soap opera.

If he leaves, he leaves the Vikes with QBs who can not compete on a high school level (IMO). Not a T. Jackson fan or Rosenfales fan. All they can hope is that a good backup becomes available when rosters are cut down. But yes, another prima donna athlete who wants the world to beg him.

Please leave Brett and turn the light off behind you.

Default Cut Him Some Slack Guys....

Come on,cut the guy some slack. You've got to
realize, that it's got to be hard on ANYONE who's
given 20 + years of their life to something they love,
to come to an easy decision on walking away ( retiring)
I'm sure he has mixed emotions and it seems it's
getting the best of him. He's human, just like the
rest of us.It can't be easy for him.
His mind says STAY but his body says LEAVE.
The guy has a BIG heart when it comes to this
game and it's been his life for a long time. That
is hard to walk away from.I don't care who you
are.So instead of bashing the guy, cut him some
slack, because whether you like him or not ,he has
given us ALL some great memories.
Personally, I hope he comes back for one more
season,atleast.On his worst,most confused day,he's
still better than BOTH the Vikes back-ups put together.
Plus, we owe the Saints one. They didn't beat the Vikings
back in January, the Vikings beat themselves. You Saints
fans know this is true.......But still,I Congratulate the
Saints and their fans on their Super Bowl win.
> Come on back for one more "run" Brett...... <

MFCA One more year Brett

I for one wanna see him come back not only this year but maybe a couple more. He's the last of positive roll models ! So what , he retires every year but that's it. If that's the worst thing the NFL has to deal with , oh my ! Lets look at all the PEDs , dog fighting , gambling , steroid users ..... and the list goes on and on ! Brett has been with the same wife ever since they were in high school , of course , they didn't marry till he was in college. A great father to his kids and his community. NFL , when Brett does retire , the league will never be the same. I could go on and on but I'll cut it here !

Default He's no better than T.O or Ochoa

He just wants the attn like Tom said. Just say you want to play, but don't want to do the camp........I"m sure nobody will object?

But all this retirement stuff is stupid.

Default "Sources Said"

that he was retiring. All he actualy said was he was considering it. But we all know that he does that constantly. The media wanted to make this into a story.

I know he procrastinates his decisions (as long as possible), and that he definitely hurt his credibility when he actually did retire (twice). But, I think a part of those were political to get out of the situations he was in. Not that it was the right way to handle things, but I would bet there is alot more behind the scenes we don't know about.

I have been a Favre fan since he was first drafted. I wish he had finished his career in Green Bay, but I am more a fan of his than the Packers. Every year I rank the teams from those I like the most to the least, and I was a little surprised how much my ranking of the Vikings and Packers actually changed when he made that move.

I do wish that if he is going to play he would show up for training camp. I think it would help how he is percieved and his legacy alot. I think missing it on purpose sets a bad example for players/younger people. That is one thing I don't like at all. However, I guess if he can get away with missing it, and he still performs the way he did last year, then who can blame him.

I keep hoping he could retire with another Super bowl win, but I have a fear that it will end up being a decisive injury that puts this all to rest.

I guess we will just have to wait and see for the next month or so.
