MFCA Texans Take Out Top Seed

The Houston Texans took out the # 1 seed Baltimore Ravens today with a hard fought 28-14 victory. Baltimore took the opening kickoff and drove 68 yards in 6 plays capped off by a 14 yard TD run by Jamaal Lewis. The Texans countered with a TD drive of their own and scored on a Matt Schaub to Kevin Walter 12 yd pass to tie the game at the end of the first quarter. The teams traded punts much of the 2nd quarter until Houston Scored with under 2 minutes left in the half Schaub to Andre Johnson 24 yd strike and led 14-7 at the half. Houston's Jacoby Jones returned the second half kickoff all the way to the Ravens 10 yard line and punched it in 2 plays later on a Steve Slaton 3 yd run and suddenly Houston led 21-7. After a touchback the Ravens started from their own 20 and was able to convert 2 first downs on passes from Joe Flacco to Anquan Boldin for 13 yards and Jamaal Lewis for 16 yards. The Houston defense shut down the Ravens from this point and they punted the ball back to the Texans. With just over 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter the Texans took over at their own 22 and orchestrated one of the best grind it out smashmouth drives I may have ever seen. Houston ran 18 straight running plays by Steve Slaton, Jonathan Wells and Arian Foster with the longest run being only 12 yards. They chopped away at the Ravens defensive line getting 5 or 7 or 4 yard runs on each play milking the clock the rest of the 3rd quarter and down to the 4:48 mark of the 4th when Arian Foster finally scored from 4 yds out to make it 28-7. Baltimore finally got the ball back after the kickoff on their own 39 and just 3 plays later Joe Flacco hit Anquan Boldin on a 52 yd bomb to cut the lead to 28-14 with 2:57 left in the game. Things got a little crazy when the Ravens recovered an onsides kick at their own 49 giving them a glimmer of hope. Flacco completed 2 short passes to Ray Rice and Derek Mason to get the ball to the Houston 38 but had to spend 2 timeouts at the 2:03 mark. The Texans Mario Williams sacked Flacco on the next play back to the 45 yd line and after the 2 minute warning Flacco missed on 3 straight passes turning the ball over on downs to the Texans. Schaub took a knee and the Texans had a 28-14 victory to open the Divisional round of the playoffs. Houston will now travel to either Buffalo or Denver for the AFC Championship Game. What legendary QB will lead his team to victory, John Elway or Jim Kelly. The Bills are the defending AFC Champs and will be playing at home.

Next up will be the first NFC Divisional game with the #4 seeded Los Angeles Rams led by Eric Dickerson visiting Jerry Glanville's top seeded Atlanta Falcons at the Georgia Dome. The other NFC game puts the high powered rushing attack of the #3 seed Washington Redskins led by John Riggins who ran for over 150 yds last week vs Detroit at the defending Super Bowl 47 Champion Minnesota Vikings. What a matchup. Gibbs vs Grant, The HOGS vs the Purple People Eaters. This should be a great game.

That's it for tonight from the Dogwood 30 Legends Electric Football League studio. See you again after the Rams and Falcons. Good Night.
