Default Growing the Hobby

Hey guys,

Did any of you ever consider running an EF tournament at a wargames convention? This would expose the hobby to a crowd who already enjoys gaming with miniatures and might get the hobby more new blood and attention. I ran EF at a local convention here and that is how I at least got to meet some local EF'ers and start playing regularly again. I think the hobby has improved so much over the decades that it is a shame for it still to be viewed as that funny game where the players all go whilly nilly and it looks like a rugby scrum. By running your games at a wargames convention you don't have to worry about making deals with hotels and such....the convention does it for you.

A very good choice for such a tourney would be Origins. This convention is held every year (late June, early July) in Columbus, Ohio. It takes place in their lovely convention center. All of it is close to the airport and they have shuttles that takes you from the convention to most of the hotels in the city. Origins is a very inclusive convention....they have wargaming, card and boardgaming, role playing....everything. I usually go each year to either Origins or Historicon (in Pennsylvania....but that con is geared to mostly historical gaming.....but football sure fits that bill!).

Just a thought.....
Robert
