Lightbulb Suggestion for THE TWEAK magazine

First off, I've been here about two weeks, and I am brand new to the serious side of this hobby, so if you dont like what I have to say here in this thread or you want to modify what I say, I have thick skin and there will be absolutely no hard feelings on my part...

Second....I had an old manager once tell me, "Dont offer up some idea that you think is great, without being willing to contribute to seeing that idea put into action"...

so with that being said...

I volunteer (gulp) to become a contributing quarterly editor to THE TWEAK.

Here is my idea:

Thumbs up ....News form around the LEAGUES

I will be the contact point for each and every league person to send their news to. BigFranco email chrisfranco@sc.rr.com and phone 843-822-5280

I will keep folders here in my office, one for each region and league, and with about a week to go before the magazine editors deadline, quarterly, I will take all the nuggets that have been sent to me and I will write a condensed version of everyone's stuff and put it into an article for the magazine called "News from around the Leagues"

Hopefully this will be entertaining.

I will reach out to the leagues and THEY will need to appoint people in their league to act as correspondence secretaries. I need to have a news contact for each league. Someone to bug if I dont hear anything from a particular league within the quarter.

Again, guys in each league can send me stuff continually throughout the year about their league or do it once a quarter.

I will take all of the stuff from everyone and try and turn it into some sort of entertaining article on a quarterly basis for the TWEAK magazine.

Sadly, having just joined, I see that the deadline for the Winter issue has just passed. But in a way that's OK as it will give me time to set this all up for the SPRING issue.

Red face ...

I think the magazine really needs this.

It will give all participants of all the leagues another reason to become members and a part of the MFCA organization. Obviously, if league members want to keep up with the news about their league from a national perspective they will need to be subscribers and MFCA members and be getting the quarterly magazine.

Alot of guys will join, I think, knowing that their league will be featured in the article on a quarterly basis. Ego is a big motivational tool. I believe people will subscribe and become members because in a unique way the magazine will become a historical archive of information for their leagues. It might even create a demand for back issues as new league participants may want to catch up on the history of their leagues...and the easiest way to do that will be to buy back issues of the TWEAK.

What do you guys think?

I've been involved in similar organizations such as this, and the magazine really needs someone to write a quarterly article like this...

so again, having offered the idea....I humbly volunteer my services to head up this mission.

If the editors like my idea, but they know someone with more MF experience who would be better suited to write the articles or someone else in mind, someone who is already plugged in to the community and KNOWS the people involved at a personal level to coordinate and write the articles....again, that is TOTALLY OK with me....I am more than aware that I am brand new and that I just walked in the door here....and I will be very happy knowing that I contributed in some small way to the organization with this idea.

I am TOTALLY COOL with someone else writing this quarterly article for the magazine....

But if you would like me to head the thing up, and do the work, I am again (gulp) willing to do that.

Best,

Chris

Default Editors response...

Chris...first off thanks for your enthusiasm for this hobby and thanks for your offer to help us out, we can always use some help with the magazine. Most of everything you have stated has been accomplished in one form or the other. I am currently in contact with a majority, if not all of the leagues out there. Through the MFCA directory I have been able to comply a list of phone numbers and contacts, not to mention, I have spent hours upon hours talking with coaches about their leagues and what they would like to see. We are currently featuring 2-3 leagues in every issue and featuring well known coaches. We are also giving full coverage to all major tournaments, skills competition and we also put in several articles for the advancement of the hobby, which include painting and tweaking tips, ideas for solo play etc.

I tried calling you this morning and it is my hope we can connect soon...I am more a conversationalist type person, who likes to hear the ideas first hand. Sometimes e-mails are very impersonal. We are looking to widen the list of writers for the magazine...so I am putting you down for the Spring issue

Furthermore, after the Winter issue comes out...and this goes out to everyone...we are going to send out a questionaire to get more feedback from the miniature football community. What I am looking for is two things...a grade A-F and perhaps generating a list of things that are not getting enough coverage. I look forward to hearing from you Chris and that goes for everyone...my phone number is 574-722-1204...call me and we will talk football!

Hi Chris,

Greetings to you my friend. To begin with I hope that both you and your family had a nice Thanksgiving. Also I enjoyed speaking to you a few days ago and look forward to future conversations.

I echo what Matt said in that I am thankful for your enthusiasm. You have been a part of the community for less than a month and you are doing everything you can to promote and better the hobby. As for the magazine it is for everyone. I can't speak for Matt or Al but personally I feel that they would appreciate your input if you can come up with ideas to make it better.

Thanks again for your enthusiasm.

John aka Coach J
