What is the best CAMERA to use for taking MF pictures?

My wife has a very expensive digital camera. When trying to take close up pictures of figures, they come out horrible.

Is there a trick to this?

Is there a certain type of camera that you need?

Special lens to buy?

You don't need a special lens but make sure you find the macro setting on your camera that allows for extreme closeups.

and as the tutorial shows. Lots of light is key.

Depending on the camera there are some different things you can do.You would need a macro lens to get in very tight.But you can also use your existing lens but step back and zoom in all the way. The key is good lighting(key, back, and fill-left ,right, and back ).The macro lens allows you to get in tighter but will lessen your depth of field(background and sometimes surrounding areas). You can get just as effective with a good zoom- just step back a bit and zoom in all the way. Using the white paper will help spread out the light.
The Rutgers pic is with a macro lens and the Navy pic(sorry about that,lol) is with a zoom lens .Really not much difference if the lighting is good. The above link that Weirdwolf provided seems really helpful too. Hope this helps.

Macro lens Rutgers pic. Basically you sacrifice some clarity with the zoom lens. The center of focus in this pict was the center. I wanted to have a certain action look, but you can see how clear and detailed the center area is.The lighting is also much better.

I'm not going to say that these digital cameras are the best, but they do a great job for me.

A have a Kodak EasyShare CX6230 and a Kodak EasyShare C340.

They both have different settings for different types photo shoots, and were relatively inexpensive when I bought them.

The icon for it usually looks like a flower or such.

Also - mount the camera on a tripod.

Use the self timer - DO NOT hand hold!!!!

If using the flash - do not set camera too close - move tripd back and zoom in instead.

If possible set up with good lighting and don't use flash.

These are what works with me.

We have a Canon AE530? 5.1 megapixels
Basically a little point and shoot with many options.
