Boiled Base Spinoff Post

Apparently, some folks misunderstood my earlier recommendation to Mike Turner to DISPELL the myth that boiled bases are superior to non-boiled bases. And that I thought that was the primary reason the Las Vegas Tournament hasn't been successful. I apologize for starting another war of words, BUT...!!! the ONLY person I was talking to was Mike Turner. Maybe I shoulda PMd him.

Another note, some may have forgotten, I was IN THE LAEFL in 2006!!! I HAVE PLAYED that way, so why would I bash that way?

I was simply offering a suggestion, based on my belief as to why people aren't willing to attend such an event. I didn't accuse anyone of cheating or sneaking boiled bases into a non-boiled base format. All I said was to... DISPELL THE MYTH!!!

....No problem brothah, just one note boiled bases are not the competitive edge, it is overweight men that make a difference. You can boil but still need to tweak the base, they don't come out the pot great.

Why are boiled bases so controversial? It seems when this topic is brought up you better get ready to scrap. I mean if you have a Frankenstein base or some boat bases on your team, I think that's more of an advantage than boiled bases, as these are more difficult to create (Frankenstein) or more difficult to find (boats). Some leagues don't allow or limit you to a certain number of these. Anyone can boil bases, RJ is right, you still have to tweak them so I guess it's just a weight issue in the end.

I really don't understand why this gets so many people bent out of shape. To be honest how many boilers are out there. I rarley hear it talked about in the present tense. A lot of people say thay HAVE done it, but I rarely read posts on active boilers. Unless there is a lot of closet boiling going on.

Ever heard the old saying "run what ya brung", when I drag raced that was it, heads up racing, you against me. You race what you brought and I did the same. If I got beat because of a bigger or better motor then I was back at the drawing board making changes. I think the same should apply to bases at the advanced level of play.

Boiled bases are a mystery for me because I have never seen one.

For all of the rule makers of leagues and tournaments, why is it that you don't allow boiled bases in your leagues or tournaments? As long as the player makes weight and size rules I would think they should be allowed. I personally like the more liberal equipment rules relating to equipment because if someone is creative enough to come up with a new solution then that can only help to advance the hobby. I say if someone makes there own base via frankenstein method or boiling, then kudos to them and maybe if the idea is good enough then it could be translated to a larger scale for the rest of the hobby. I'm not trying to stir up anything but I'm just curious. I would think if people have a way to get better moving or uniquely performing bases then that would be embraced.

THAT WAS everyone's excuse. BUT like you know, when you played in the LAEFL I played with proline bases and went 13-2 for the year. AS RJ said, you still have to TWEEK boil or proline. THIS is were you find out who can put and coach a team. SEE YOU IN DETROIT.
