Aaarrrrrgggghhhhh
I use Model Masters dull clear coat acrylic on a team and it smeared the paint. Custom decals ruined. Why did this happen. 22 haiti repros ruined. I am going back to using modge podge and a sealer.

Ive ruined a couple in the past by not letting the decals or paint dry completely. If its dry I have not had any problems with the matte finish spray.

I waited a full day before using the clear coat. Oh well back to the drawing board.

I've made my own decals and bought several people's decals and this has NEVER happened to me. Please give details on which decals you used and was the clearcoat a spray or brush on. We got to get to the bottom of this so this doesn't happen to others.

The decals were fine it was the Model Master Dull Clear Coat Acrylic. The team was my HiTMEN team and the uniforms were all black. I used acrylic paint. When I applied the clear coat it was working good. Then about ten minutes later the paint started running off of the figures onto the white helmets and socks. The paint was just coming right off! I used a brand new brush to apply the dull coat. Man was I mad. I spent alot of money on those decals. I still have some left to finish a team but it was like I threw away money. I'm glad the figures were haiti repros and not DeWaynes figures. Again, it was not the decals! I panted the figures first. Then applied the decals using Solvaset. The next day I tried to clear coat.

I use the Delta Ceramcoat semi-gloss and gloss polyurathane (recommend by Guttman I believe) but I know others who use Model Masters. What brand of black paint did you use? Also, just wanted to clarify, are you saying the decals where fine and the ink on the decals did not smear?

I use only
Micro-Scales clear coat flat or gloss finish. Brush on - not spray. Easy to use acrylic - does not yellow. Can use over enamel or acrylic. Nice flat and high gloss - especially for the helmets. Never had a problem.

My Experience
I am about to use Delta Ceramcoat Gloss and Matte Varnishes for the 1st time, but until now I have always used MM Acryl Gloss on my teams. After painting, decalling (water only! no solvaset) and Modge Podge, I would then slap on the Gloss. I have noticed that the dark color ran a lil bit, especially onto white pants, but nothing dramatic. I also used Testors Acrylic or MM Acryl paints to keep from cross-product mishaps.
*Was your paint MM or Testors? *Were the decals ruined or did they just come off? *Maybe the MM Gloss only ate the Solvaset off and not the decal itself? **And, is that custom "Windy City Flyer" pose on the squad yet? Last edited by JIMBO : 01-22-2008 at 12:57 PM. |

The decals did not run. The black paint ran onto the decals. I used Delta Ceramacoat acrylic paint. The Model Master dull coat clear acrylic ate through the paint not the decals.

Jimbo,
He is painted up but thankfully I did not use the claer coat on him. If I would have I would have been really upset. |
