Default Polo Green TTC

I have been playing around with a lot of different bases this past year in my solitaire league., Tonight I pulled out some polo green TTC and I remember now what sweet bases these are. I am getting great speed out of them.

I had such fun with them, I ordered five more sets from Miggle tonight. I also tweaked two running backs for an ironman demo team using the repro frosty rookie and got good speed out of those.

I forgot how fast a good TTC base can be. I have been in the mindset of rookies for speed lately, but I was shocked to rediscover these polo green TTC.

What fun!

Default Polo green bases

Hey Coach,
Just wondering if you can tweak these bases with the "normal" technique of tweaking. I ordered a couple of sets from Miggle a couple of days ago to compliment a few rookie bases. Any help and/or advice is greatly appreciated.

Yes, they tweak very easy using all the normal tweak methods. I was tweaking most of mine for speed and that is generally a prong that is straight (not curled at the tip), the entire prong is anged slightly backwards. I did give a gentle squeeze to soften and put a little width to the prongs, the back more so than the front. This is what worked for me. You are taking advice from a three year tweaker, not a master, I am just telling you what worked for me last night on these.

Default Question

With all the talk about the different color bases that are out there, do they run better, or are coaches falling for a different color ink added to the same plastic?

Anthony.. in my conversations with our supplier that did the plastic injection molding.. they added different colored pellets to the mix for whatever color we wanted.. And as far as a different color/pellets changing the performance or lack thereof.. their opinion was no differences period..

There are definite differences in Miggle base performance even when it's the same style base.. and which "run" of bases it is.. That's basically because you just never know what those Chinese are gonna throw in the hopper..

I remember some discussions a few years ago about "virgin" plastic.. Our supplier for our application, only used new plastic (clear) and none of the recycled stuff...

So there are differences.. but it's more a difference in "runs" rather than color..

I think the color thing Miggle has going on is great.. LOL
I surely "have to have" the new colors when they come out..

Take Care Man

I think there definitely can be differences between the colors. Any time you modify the formula of the plastic to change the color you are always subject to an overall change in the final product.

With that said, my intention was not to pick the polo green TTC over any other color based on performance, I was just saying up until then I was in the "must have a rookie base for speed" frame of mind. Being a tweaker of three years I can honestly say that I am able to tweak the orange, yellow and polo greens for good strength and speed when needed. So a tweaker with a few years experience like myself may not be at a level where I can notice a huge difference between the colors, but I guarantee you there is a difference, I know for a fact there can be.

A prime example of this is, I am about to ramble here:

I play Subbuteo table soccer and the three dimensional player, smaller in size to our figures, sits atop a round flat disc, which is flicked with your finger to move the player into the ball across a scale sized felt type soccer pitch.

There are makers of custom high end CNC machined plastic bases, some have two or three pieces so you can color match and change weights etc... I have played with several sets from a certain manufacturer, all were the same exact base weight and dimension, but different colors and the performance difference between the colors was like night and day. And these things cost upwards of $100.00 for 12 bases!

I know for a fact changing colors of the plastic can have an adverse effect on the final product, it's been talked about for years between our soccer community and the manufacturer.

I am not saying the difference in Miggle colors is that drastic, but I know it can definitely happen.

Let's get some feedback from some of the masters.

Default Polo tweaking

Thanks, Coaches for the advice and help. I am by no means a master tweaker, perhaps a step above novice but I have successfully tweaked a few rookie bases with decent results. I am looking forward to getting my hands on those polos. Thanks again for all your expertise and advice!
