Rules Question

It is the last play in the game. It is overtime. The offense and defense calls set. They run the board. It is a pass. The offense goes to pass and suddenly points out that they ( the offense ) have three guys in the endzone. The play meanwhile is from midfield going the other way. So they are not in play so to speak but they are on the field and not on the sideline. What do you call ?

The play will determine the winner if the pass is completed.

A lot has to do with how you play.

Many don't call penalties, nor enforce them. House rules supersedes football rules.

What you have is a Multiple Foul on the Offense. 1 for Too many men on the field, 2 Offsides if the players are on the defenses side of the field.

Or just one penalty for too many men on the field. The play is dead at the snap .

Does the offense get another play ?

The game is over ... the penatly was on the offense ... the game can not end only if the penatly is on the defense. I hope this helps

It is treated like any other down in regulation. If it was 1st and 10 from the 50, then the yardage is marked off, the down remains the same.
I think it is a 5 yard penalty ?

Inquiring minds get to know answers to questions. I think if more rules questions are made that people will understand the rulings better than taking them personally. In other words, and informed mind is better than an opinionated one.
As far as the SWB or any other tournament is concerned, it would be great if people posted about rules that they don't understand or ones they would like clarified before they go the next time. I would not want to have an idea in my mind that certain rules should be taken one way when really I am wrong all along.
Ours should be an informed group rather then a group of opinions.
In the case I mentioned, the game would be over as far as I am concerned. Any rule I have researched does not mention an offensive penalty being a reason for another play when it comes to the half or end of the game. All the rule sets I have read only mention that a game can't end on a defensive penalty.

I think that this forum is the best place to ask as we have so many that want each other to know and respect the rules we play by and not be upset when we don't understand them.

So unless someone else responds differently, the game is over.

Just a question for the sake of the discussion..

If the game (clock) is based on the number of plays...
Then the play never happened.. no time was run off the (clock)

Defense would choose between taking the penalty or the play..
They would choose the penalty, move the offense 5 yards back.. and play that last play.. UNLESS.. the rules state that the penalty includes loss of down..

Just.. throwing it out there to get tossed about..
I still have to think about what I just typed.. LOL

It really didn't affect the play, BUT there were 5 extra guys in the field of play when the pass was completed and it wasn't until the defense made their adjustments toward the WR that I saw them. Had it been me, I probably would've just let you take them off the board - no harm, no foul. Some guys play differently. Maybe I should've stepped up and said something. Sorry. The winner of that game faced Adrian and then me, so I guess I owe you a game in June, eh?
