Default The War Gaming hobby teaches Big Lock a lesson.

This past saturday i went to a Wargaming Hobby shop, I wanted to get more accurate flesh tone paints, Luckily I got to see a Warhammer/Period Base War tournament, and boy was I blown away, not enough to drop my Figs and Buy a thousand Space Marines or Two Hundred Long Shanks, but I was impressed none the less, what did impressed me was the figure artistry and the Battlefield table, these guys paint these figures with such realism, one guy when his figures were killed in battle insted of using the little red flag marker would use what he called a killed marker, which is an exact replica of the figured that was killed but with bullet holes, extreme poses looking like figure was hit in battle, he had one pose that looked like a distraught soldier holding his slain comrade in his arms, the detail was slick and real, the grass and hills of the battlefield, with cannon marks and fortresses that looked real, then I started thinking of my beloved hobby, how the realness of our figures have improved, how our fields of play have improved, how we now have more realistic styles that are closer to the realness of football. We must continue to evolve, change the view of how others look at our hobby, its not the same game you played in 1982, we must keep pushing the envelope on custom figs to bring the feel and passion of the excitement of football to any and all who witness what we do. The Wargaming Hobby taught me that passion and presentation can make what you do much more enjoyable, lets stay the course my EF/MF family we to can have what they have, A large following of great hobbyists.

Stay Blessed

yes, yes, yes! i love the look of wargaming. it's actually a bit more illustrative than realistic, but it really sets a mood and makes you want to just dive right in and want to play! i love hearing, too, that the guys went the extra mile and made up some "men down". i went to a convention last year here in columbus and there was a table, well, more like 9 banquet tables set up altogether made to look like a desert with a few different persian armies and a couple of really nice, scratch built palaces. the battle was HUGE!

This is why we have to get more participation not only in displaying on the forum but in the contests. Wargaming didn't just magically evolve...associations just like ours and manufacturers sponsored contests which spurred the wargamers on to get better and better. They are light years ahead of us because of that. I was involved in wargaming back in the 80's and actually won a couple of contests but I couldn't keep up with the evolution that took place in that hobby regarding painting and customizing. We can make that happen here also and we are starting to see the beginning of it with all the mad customs and realism that is being displayed..

lock.. i recently got involved with the warhammer guys at my local store and got blown away by the details and style of painting that they display. I got so wrapped up into it that i went anb bought a few figures just to learn how to do that style of painting and wow...what a eye opener !!! was taught how to do things i never thought possible with paints. Also , being into creating custom figures i was always looking for stuff i could use or convert to our hobby.. (ie that linebacker i posted ) so i agree.. if we could get a line of figures on that level of details that could be painted and dressed up with al the goodies like those warhammer figures, i think we could get alot more interest in the hobby just from that. P.S that line backer was just the beginning of my mad labbing...i have some stuff in the works with full faces, the big arms, and other goodies comming soon..

Default War Gaming....

Speaking of WarGaming, I'm working on a project in my spare
time from painting EF-teams or making EF field gear,that I've
wanted to do since I was a kid.I'm putting together a "rigid"
polyurethane foam model , HO ( 25 mm ; 1/72 )scale model
of The Alamo.I've always been facinated with this battle in
American history.I'm having it painted professionaly by a
guy in Cleveland,Ohio.I'll paint the figures.I just want the
Alamo itself done so it looks authentic.You have to have
a talent for that kind of work, i.e.-weathered;battle-scarred;
look and I don't have those skills.
The Alamo comes in 15 molded -foam pieces that simply lay
side by side.It takes up an area ( just the Alamo) of approx.
4 ft. X 5 ft.,plus whatever outside ( of the fort) area I need
for Santa Annas' army.It should be fun working on this project.
I'm stoked,as they say.I'm also going to look into this
'war-gaming" thing and see if there are rules ,etc to re-inact
the Alamo.I'm not sure if there is solitaire war-gamming or if
it takes 2 or more to play.I may need to find someone to
go to war against.Any takers ?....LOL Jimbo ? ... LOL-just
kidding bro.Please don't take that seriously.Just trying to
lighten the mood a little.
Anyway,it looks like my second hobby might be in the
wargaming community.If nothing else comes out of this,I'll
have a diorama of The Alamo.Davy Crockett;Jim Bowie;
Santana, ......I mean Santa Anna.
Thanks for letting me share a "kids" dream with you.
" Remember The Alamo "

SEMPER FI,
Chris Stacey

THANKS bIGLOCK....Too bad you was not able to capture some of the fun on pictures.

The new stuff out of your camp should be some sweet-looking Hybirds on your next project.
