Question Bear's 46 Defense

Does anyone have a diagram or picture of the Bear's 46 defensive alignment?

Default U Were There!!!

Didn't you see my BEARS at Miggle? Until they got their cleats stuck in mud at The ROSE BOWL (SUPER SLOW BOARD!!!), my guys were playing JUST like the '85 BEARS and the 46 was on 'em from every angle!!! The "Immaculate Reception" was their ONLY flaw!!!

Let's see your usual array of pics and video of the 46 defense!

No video or pics until next year's Miggle!!! I will say this though: ALL 15 defenders had at least 1 Sack that weekend and Richard Dent led Da BEARS with 7 (one in each game except for SB...???)!!!

I'll tell ya, there are 46 different ways to run the "46" but the way the BEARS did it in '85 was magical. I did mine just like they did. I told my 4 DL ("Danimal", "Mongo", "Fridge" and "Uhh-ohh, better get Maaco") to "meet at the ball!" And they did on almost every play but one.

But, if you really must see a play, here it is straight from MY playbook!!!

Default Thanks Jimbo

I'm sure many find your input invaluable. I know I'm taking notes. (although I know you're holding back on the REAL strategy )

Default Many Secrets, Yes

...but too many to keep!

The 46 is predicated on SPEED and VIOLENCE!!! Giving up 4yds a pop does no good, nor do 2 QB Sacks if you give up the 3rd Down Conversion. One on one every single one of my guys may give up a lil strength. One on one they might not win the 40yd Dash. Collectively as a unit, they are near unstoppable. Every one of these guys will run and run and run no matter where they are on the field. They'll hit the siderail and bounce back into the fray! I designed them that way. Granted they never play on that stinkin' Rose Bowl field again!!!

My 2 DEs are fast and strong enough not to get pushed off course, nor will they allow the OL to keep contact for very long. The DTs are strong enough to keep the backs tucked behind their OL long enough to let the 2 LBs slip thru the gap left by the OTs that aren't blocked. The CBs are strong enough to stop momentum momentarily and then turn with the WR and escort them downfield because 90% of Coaches WILL NEVER EVEN LOOK at a WR with a CB nearby. They look for that one guy that flies downfield after being shoved back 15yds. Then when they pass to him, he's barely beyond the LOS!?! The FS is a blazer and can track (should) anything from one sideline to the other, unless the phantom pass gets called Complete.

If the other Coach keys in on the DEs looping around the edges like they should, then I bring them in tight and gap the OTs and OGs. Or one and not the other. Or drop them into the Flats and send the LBs from 10yds. Or drop one LB and send the FS from either side. Slant Left, Slant Right on the DL. A million different combos so the Offense never knows who, what or where...???

Default thanks Jimbo.....

explained very well, sir!

I use this defense a lot against 3-wide becasue it put QUICK max pressure and forces the early throw or throw away.
