Default Steelers Fans Say It Ain't So

Greetings to all of my MF coaches and especially Steelers fans. I hope that everyone is doing well.

I briefly read something the other day on the net where the Rooneys were thinking of either selling the Pittsburgh Steelers or at least part of the team to someone else. The Rooney family has owned the Steelers since day one, which is 1933, and they have been a class act. As some of you I am somewhat of a traditionalist and I would not want someone to purchase the team and ruin it. This may not sit well with some people but Dan Snyder and Mark Cuban are NOT two of my favorite owners. I would not want someone with that kind of an attitude gaining ownership of the Steelers. If I have this whole thing wrong about the Steelers ownership then someone please correct me.

Default Steelers Ownership

The ownership of the team is currently divided among the Rooneys. Dan (Chairman) and his 5 sons...with Art II (team President), are the owners. Some of the brothers have interests in gambling operations...and gambling and sports are "no mix" situations as far as the NFL is concerned. Those brothers are looking to sell their interest in the team.

This article describes it better than I can:

I think the main thing is that NOBODY, including the bothers that are trying to sell their interests, wants to "ruin" the Rooney/Steeler legacy and reputation...

I realize that ALMOST anything is possible in the NFL, but the Steelers won't go anywhere.

Default I honestly think...

that what happend to the Colts and Browns has helped make it much less likely that it would happen to the Steelers...or any other team that has been around as long as they have (or longer) in the same city...

Thanks for the article and clearing that up for me. At least Mark Cuban is NOT interested in the team according to the article. I am aware that gambling and sports ownership are a no-no in the NFL. That is what happened to former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr. and he had to sell the team. It has been all downhill for the 49ers since he sold the team. Hopefully the Rooney family can work something out where they can still hold majority ownership in the team.

Default Better hope they don't come to L.A.

Coming to L.A. would be a good business move for the first year or so...then the franchise would be ruined, just like the Raiders. The Raider organization has not been the same since moving to Los Angeles. After defeating the Redskins in the Superbowl, it was over for the organization. The Raiders went Hollywood, and then Al Davis true genius began to show "Commitment to Excriment". The Oakland Raiders will never regain what they had in the 60s, 70s & early 80s as long as Davis is the owner, and with the way the NFL runs today, the Pats were probably the last dynasty we will see for a while. I said all of that to say...I hope the Steelers stay where they are, and the great Steeler Tradition continues.

No disrespect to anyone in southern California but both the Rams and Raiders moved out of Los Angeles which as we know is the second largest media market in the country. Even the thought of the Steelers moving to Los Angeles would be insane. The Los Angeles Steelers. No I don't think so. Al Davis thought he was going to hit it big financially by moving the Raiders to LA but found out that the grass was not so green on the other side. By the way IF any team tries to move to LA then you can expect to see Al Davis once again in court suing someone. I think Al Davis said that the Raiders have territorial rights to Los Angeles. To make a long story short whether the Rooneys or someone buys the team the Steelers need to remain in Pittsburgh.

Default Follow-up Article

As you can imagine, the local media is all over this story 24/7...

Here's a follow-up article from the Post-Gazette...

Druckenmiller, the main person the Rooney's are speaking with, is committed to Pittsburgh
