Default Plax is not alone , is he ?

Do any of you guys remember any other stupid blunders like the Plaxico self shooting.
I know about Michael Vick and how his career went to the dogs, and how Ricky Williams went organic and choose pot over football until he went broke. How about some other blunders that took a chunk out of your favorite team.
The news here is every day, all day long, about this Giants media event.
I hear about it in the dentist office, the bank, the food store, and it is like the story gets deeper and deeper. I hope they just don't make a movie about it.
Heck, the knucklehead shot himself ( or did he ) and now faces charges for carrying the illegal gun that he shot himself with. I wonder , knowing this guy is out of his mind, that they don't charge him with attempted murder. ( yea, on himself )
I am a Giants fan, but come on, there are over 60 other guys on the team busting their buts and all the focus is on a millionaire gone wild.
Mark Ingram, remember that catch in the super bowl?

Just wondering if any of you remember any crazy stuff on other teams.

After football Billy Cannon was caught counterfeiting(?).
In the late 70's the Cowboys had some drug scandal, I think Harvey Martin and some other high profile players on defense were named. There was a running back in the 60's, a great athlete but his head was screwed on a little too tight, he was a journeyman named Joe Don Looney. His antics were confined to the teams he played for. As an example, during practice with the Bears he was told to punt the ball. He did, after he turned around facing his own goal line, and nailed it for about 70 yards. During a game with the Bears Coach Halas tried to send him in with a play, to which Looney responed "I'm not your messenger boy." John Gilliam had a drug problem with the Steelers in the 70's. Chuck Muncie in New Orleans had a drug and women problems in the 70's.

Default Real life!

The sporting world is just a slice/reflection of society. The same ills that plague society plague sports as well. Athletes have the same frailties as the rest of us. It's the 24/7 media that make these situations, regardless of how dumb they are, bigger and more important than they should be.

By the way, I think it was Joe Gilliam of the Steelers that had the drug problem. From what I remember John Gilliam of the Vikings was a pretty clean guy.

Default How about these guys?

Nate Newton who was caught drug trafficking. Or Maurice Clarrett who let his gift over shadow his judgement ( i beleive he is still in jail). I think the commentary Stephen A. Smith (on espn) said on sportscenter hit the nail on head. I can't remember exactly what he said but it was not only true about our athletes and he specifically singled out black atheletes and the problems they bring upon themselves. There are many influences for those with money and without money but you have to make the right decision or live with the consequences. And those employing those who make the bad decisions should take a stand like the giants a say this is enough and take his means of making a living away. Why should a player like "PacMan" keep getting chance after chance and he isn't even the best corner on his team. Well let me stop I am starting to ramble but the topic struck a nerve. By the way as a cowboys fan they need to take notes from their division rival the giants.

Paul Hornung was suspended for gambling. Our society today is not morally good so the athletes are more prone to illegal activity. Why? They have money and power of invincibility. Bad cobination. Money and the thought of being above the law!

Default Two Mets

Dwight Gooden and Darryl Strawberry each had all the talent in the world but let drugs derail their careers. They each could have been hall of famers.

I heard a good line on ESPN. Sal Palantonio is the guy who always covers the bad stories for ESPN (Plaxico Burress, Michael Vick etc.). One day Steve Phillips who was the GM at the time for the New York Mets was sitting in his office when a problem involving one of his players arose. His boss came in to see him and said "I have bad news and I have worse news for you. The bad news is that Sal Palantonio is here, the worse news is that he brought luggage."

Bam Morris and Tamarik Vanover. I believe it was running a car theft ring and drugs.

Default Stupid Injuries

Let us not forget Gus Frerotte who had one of the stupidest injuries when he rammed his helmet against a cement wall after scoring a touchdown and was out for the year.

The most famous "mythical" injury occured when Steve Levy, an ESPN newscaster, read the teleprompter verbatim. Instead of a player being out with a bulging disc, the "s" in the last word wasn't typed in the teleprompter so the guy was out with a "bulging &$#"

$10 to anyone who can find the footage of that. Dan Patrick will occasionally reference it on his show.
